3rd Annual Big Man
Tournament of Champions
Results
The
Central High Bobcats captured the championship of the 3rd
Annual Big Man Tournament of Champions held on Saturday,
July 12, 2008 at Powell High School. The Bobcats edged
two-time defending champion Bearden in the closest
competition in the event’s history. Only three points
separated the top four teams. Central’s winning margin
came thanks in part to earning 16 points in the obstacle
course event. Dylan Wolfenbarger set an event record in
the obstacle course with a time of 21.58 seconds, while
his Central teammate Austin Stinnett earned points for
the Bobcats in the event with a 4th place
finish. Fulton’s Antwan Hamilton also set a record with
a 9.43 second time in the 1-man sled. Coaches Matt Lowe
of Powell and Buck Coatney of Fulton helped to organize
the event. Each team consisted of ten players. The
events required the linemen to use their strength,
agility, quickness, and teamwork skills. Each event was
scored like a track meet with the winning team scoring
10 points, the second place team getting 8 points, and
decreasing points given to the lower-placed teams. The
event was very successful, and everyone is looking
forward to a bigger and better event next year.
