About Fulton
Stadium/Bob Black Field
Long before
Fulton played its first home game at the school, what is now known as
Bob Black Field served as Fulton�s practice field. Home games from
1951-1964 were played at Evans-Collins Field. In 1964, the North
Knoxville Stadium Association was established with the goal of building
a football stadium at Fulton High School. The NKSA worked hard to raise
money for the project from local businesses and individual donors. In
October of 1964, local dignitaries gathered for the ground breaking of
Fulton Stadium/Falcon Field. The original stadium, consisting of the
middle section of the current stadium�s bleachers, along with temporary
stands, seated 3000 people and was ready for the first game of the 1965
season on August 27, 1965 against Unicoi Co. On that historic evening, a
full house watched the Falcons defeat the Blue Devils 13-0. The stadium
was expanded to its current configuration before the 1969 season. Fulton
lost to Sevier Co. 14-8 in the first game in the completed stadium.
Falcon Field was renamed �Bob Black Field,� in honor of the coach and
athletic director on September 12, 1986. In the dedication game, Fulton
defeated Alcoa 10-7 on Mike Potter�s overtime field goal. Fulton
concluded the 2002 season with a perfect 8-0 home record, including
three consecutive home victories in the TSSAA Play-offs. For the first
time ever on November 1, 2002, Fulton hosted a live regional cable
broadcast on CSS, as the Falcons defeated the Gibbs Eagles 47-7.

Field Decorations
Fulton takes great
pride in the appearance of Bob Black Field. Many fans have said that
Fulton�s field is the best-decorated field in the area. The coaching
staff spends many hours on Wednesdays painting the field for Friday�s
game. The drop wing falcon on the 50-yard line first appeared during the
1992 season. This is the second season that the falcon has been painted
black. The FHS designs in both end zones debuted in 1993. The current
field design has been in use since the 1996 season. The drop wing falcon
and FHS logos are outlined by hand prior to the start of the season by
Fulton graduates Tim Parker and Jason Harbison.

Fulton at Home
Fulton�s 19 game
home winning streak ended earlier this year at the hands of Austin-East.
The 19 game streak set a school record for most consecutive home wins.
The streak began with a win over Rutledge in week five of 2001 until
Fulton�s semi-final win over Macon Co. in 2003. Fulton has posted a 3-2
record at Bob Black Field this year. The Falcons opened their stadium
with a 19 game unbeaten streak (17-0-2) from 1965-1968. Fulton�s
all-time home record is 114-88-3, and Coach Coatney is 41-31 at home.
Currently, Fulton has a 6-game winning streak in home playoff games, and
has a home record in the playoffs of 8-2.

Fulton vs. Pigeon
Forge - The Series
Tonight marks
the 2nd ever meeting between Fulton and Pigeon Forge. The
teams met in 2002 in the first round of the playoffs. The Falcons
defeated the Tigers 43-0 in the Tigers� first ever playoff appearance.
Pigeon Forge began playing varsity football in 2001, and has compiled an
overall record of 15-27 in four years. This is the Tigers� third playoff
appearance. Pigeon Forge has yet to advance past the first round, losing
last year at Austin-East 47-13. Coach David Ryan is in his 2nd
year as head coach of the Tigers, his record is 7-14.

Last Meeting
Fulton
began its march to the 2003 BlueCross Bowl with a 43-0 victory over
Pigeon Forge at Bob Black Field in the first round of the 2003
playoffs. For the Falcons it was the beginning of the �Sevier Co.
sweep,� as the Falcons defeated Pigeon Forge, Seymour, and
Gatlinburg-Pittman in the first three rounds. Fulton got of to a
slow start in the game, thanks to the tough Tiger defense. Demetris
Davis scored first for the Falcons late in the first quarter on a
one-yard run. Fulton QB Jack Whetsel completed 8 of 18 passes in the
game for 136 yards. Fulton�s second TD in the game came on a 13-paly
drive in which the Falcons had to convert on 3 4th downs.
Whetsel�s drive capping 7 yard TD pass to Antonio Minor came on 4th
and Goal. Whetsel�s 7-yard TD run late in the half gave Fulton a
22-0 lead at intermission. In the second half, Fulton scord on runs
by Davis and Jam Fine, and a 15-yard pass from Justin Long to Tylon
Gibson. The Falcon defense held the tigers to 92 yards of offense,
with 63 yards coming from sophomore Josh Bugh.

Last Week
Fulton
closed out the 2004 regular season in grand style last Friday as they
defeated the Gibbs Eagles 58-7 at Bob Black Field. Fans were treated to
a pre-game demonstration by the 101st Airborne
Parachute Demonstration Team from Fort Campbell, who landed 4
soldiers and the game ball on the 50-yard line. Falcon seniors were also
honored before the game. DeMarcus Matthews, Elliott Bishop and Dennis
Rogan each scored two touchdowns for the Falcons in the victory.
Quarterback Ish Young connected on 7 of 9 passes for 107 yards and three
touchdowns. Fulton led 25-7 at halftime, and then exploded for 5 second
half touchdowns. The Falcon rushing game racked up 322 yards on 43
carries, while allowing Gibbs only 164 total yards. |
Bishop nominated for
player of week
The
News-Sentinel and Channel 10 nominated Fulton senior defensive back
Elliott Bishop as a defensive player of the week candidate this week.
Bishop recorded 5 tackles, including one for loss, and a 52-yard
interception return for a touchdown in last week�s win over Gibbs. This
is the fifth consecutive week that a Fulton defensive player has been
nominated for the honor this season. Antonio Hamilton was nominated for
the Anderson Co. game, Brandon Winters was nominated for the Scott game,
and Cobb was nominated last week for the Kingston game.

Pigeon Forge�s Bugh AP Player of Wk.
The Associated Press named pigeon Forge running back Josh Bugh player of
the week this week. He ran for 102 yards and a pair of TDs on 14
carries, and he also returned two interceptions for TDs covering 48 and
a
school-record 99 yards in Tigers' 41-0
win at Rutledge. His scoring
runs covered 33 and 32
yards,
and
he tacked on 10 tackles, six of
them solos, with a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two
minus-yardage stops for the Tigers (5-5), who clinched a playoff
position with the win.

Fulton ends
season 6th in AP poll
Fulton�s win over Gibbs last week kept the Falcons in the number 6
spot in this week�s final AP poll. This marked the 5th time
in school history that the Falcons have made the final poll. A-E
remained the number 1 team in the state. The Falcons are currently
ranked #2 by Earl Nall, #1 in Class 3A by Sonny Moore, and #19 among all
teams by Moore.

Falcons Return to TV
Fulton coaches were featured today on Knox Co.
Schools cable Channel 10�s FalconTalk program. FalconTalk usually is
aired on WKCS Radio, but this week the show returned to television for
the first time in many years. This week�s show featured Coaches Bob and
Rob Black. FalconTalk will be aired on Cable Channel 10 and WKCS on
Friday�s at 3PM throughout the playoffs.

Last winter,
Fulton High School launched its own website devoted to football. The
Fulton Football web page is located at
www.fultonfootball.com. The site is growing everyday and is a great
source of information on the Falcons. Surfers can access current team
news and updates, along with a large photo gallery. Historical
information about the Falcons can be found also. The website is
also featuring a brief video clip of
highlights from Fulton�s state championship victory over Covington.
