Four Falcons Set to Sign on Signing Day

Four Fulton High School football seniors will sign their college letter of intent on Wednesday as a part of National Signing Day ceremonies at the school. The event will take place in the Fulton Auditorium at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 7. This years senior class tied a school record with 49 wins, and won three state championships. Fulton captured state titles in 2003, 2004, and 2006. As freshmen, several of this years seniors played key roles in Fultons first state championship. This group also helped to extend Fultons playoff streak to 14 years.  Members of the media are encouraged to attend. WKCS-FM 91.1 will be broadcasting the event live beginning at 10:30 am. For more information, please contact the Fulton Athletic Department at 594-1254, or Russell Mayes at 594-1259.

Note: At least 7 other senior Falcons have yet to make a decision concerning their college commitment. Media members will be notified as soon as a decision is made.

Dennis Rogan- University of Tennessee- The 2006 PrepXtra Player of the Year leaves as Fultons most decorated player. Rogan holds the schools all-time career rushing yard mark (5621), career rushing touchdown mark (81), and single-season rushing yard leader (2668). In addition, Rogan ranks first in the TSSAA record books with 296 points scored in 2006. He ranks second in state history in consecutive 100-yard games (19), rushing touchdowns in a season (42), and total touchdowns in a season (47). Rogan ranks ninth in TSSAA history in career rushing yards. He earned TSWA all-state honors in 2005 and 2006, and was also nominated for the American General Mr. Football Award in those years. Rogan played in three state championship games. He recorded three tackles as a Freshman in Fultons 36-9 victory over Covington in 2003, ran for a 16-yard touchdown against Greenbrier in 2004, and earned Offensive MVP honors with 213 rushing yards and 2 TDs against David Lipscomb this season. Rogan rushed for 301 yards and 5 touchdowns in a regular season victory over Scott in 2005. Fulton has had four players earn letters in football at Tennessee. They are Lyonel Stewart (75, 77, 78), Jackie Walker (69, 70, 71), Ron Widby (64, 65, 66), and Johnny Williams (81, 82, 83). Tennessee finished the 2006 season with an Outback Bowl appearance and a 9-4 record.

JaMichael Mathis- Campbellsville University- Despite playing out of position on defense at Fulton, Mathis made 24 starts at defensive end over the last two years. In college, Mathis is projected to play defensive back. In his career, Mathis recorded 128 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, and 21 sacks. He led the 2006 Falcons with 17.5 tackles for loss. Mathis was also a major playmaker at tight end for Fulton. He is best remembered for his game-winning 40-yard touchdown catch against Tyner in 2005. Mathis caught 27 passes for 469 yards and 5 touchdowns at Fulton. Campbellsville University is located in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The Tigers play in the NAIA Mid-South Conference and compiled a 2-8 record in 2006. Former Carson-Newman assistant Jim Deaton is Campbellsvilles head coach.

Antonio Hamilton- Itawamba Community College- Hamilton was a four-year starter for the Falcons and was a force on the Falcon defensive line. Hamilton started his freshman year at middle linebacker, before moving to defensive tackle his sophomore year. He earned TSWA Class 3A All-State honors for this season. During his three years at Defensive tackle, Hamilton made 226 tackles and 42 minus-yard stops. Hamilton is extremely quick for his size, and was used as a power-back in short yardage situations on offense. He scored on a 39-yard run against Livingston Academy this year.  Itawamba Community College is located in Fulton, Mississippi. The Tigers are coached by Jeff Terrill, and finished 2006 in the playoffs with a 7-3 mark.

James Higgins- Joliet Junior College- Higgins was one of the most-steady performers on the Fulton offensive and defensive line in 2006. After serving as a key reserve in 2005, Higgins started all 15 games at left guard and defensive tackle in 2006. He constantly plugged up the middle on defense, recording 55 tackles and 11 minus yard hits over the last two seasons. Higgins was a vital part of an offensive line that helped Fulton ball carriers gain 3557 yards rushing this year. Joliet Junior College is located in Joliet, IL, and completed a 7-4 record this year in the Midwest Football Conference. The Wolves are coached by Tom Minnick. Indianapolis Colts DB Kelvin Hayden, who returned an interception 56 yards for a TD in the Super Bowl, played for Joliet in 2002.
